Manipulative Giveaway!

Mother Goose Time is sponsoring a manipulative giveaway this week through their blog ambassadors.  Every monthly box from Mother Goose Time comes with two new manipulatives.  The manipulatives are used through out the month to help enhance the lessons.  They are the first things that my three year old digs out of the box every month.  She can't wait to see what new goodies we get.  Since we've been using Mother Goose Time for two years we've amassed quite a bunch of these.  The kids favorites are kept in a basket in the living room, and they get played with quite a bit. 

Some times the box comes with lacing beads, which are great for fine motor practice.

Other months we get shapes, counting cubes, geo boards, and other math based items.  

A lot of the months come with some sort of counter.  The animals are the girls favorites, but we've also received trucks, boats, food, etc.

And every once in awhile you get something completely different, like stamps, stacking games, magnet boards, etc.

The manipulatives make learning more hands on, and fun.

Valentine's Day

Every monthly box from Mother Goose Time includes a celebration pack.  This moths pack was for Valentine's Day.  

We read the Prince's Valentine, and the girls used the story telling set to retell it.

The girls made their own heart headbands.

I hid heart puzzle pieces around the house.  The girls found them all and then worked together to put them together.

We talked about ways to make your heart healthy.  The girls played a game where they would throw a cube onto the poster and then complete the exercise listed.

They also made valentines cards for their friends.

Number Rhymes

February's theme with Mother Goose Time is nursery rhymes.  Week one was devoted to rhymes about numbers.  Mother Goose Time is a comprehensive, all in one boxed curriculum.  It focuses on physical and emotional development, literacy, math, social studies, science, and creative development. 

For literacy work this week Elli practiced writing her name on her name tag, worked on finding and identifying the letter I on the monthly rhyme time poster, worked on a few pages of her my little journal, and listened to Addie read the book of the month.  

For math work Elli counted money to buy food, sorted shape beads, used our sorting pie to work on colors, used the sheep manipulatives to work on counting, played a counting game with Addie,  played a clock game, sand sorted sheep by size and color.

For creative development Elli made pig finger puppets, a play dough pie, built with cornstarch noodles, painted her own door, made a Baa Baa Black Sheep story telling set, and she and Addie made mice headbands.  

Elli also worked on following a recipe to make play dough.  She used the look and find glasses to search for different things on the theme poster and then followed the prompts on the back of the glasses.

Joseph and the Colorful Coat

Mother Goose Time curriculum comes with the option of adding on extras, such as the Experience God lesson plan and student packs.  For January the story of the month was Joseph and the colorful coat.  The Christian add on always has some sort of character development that it focuses on, in this case it was patience.  

The teacher pack comes with a lesson plan book, story telling cards, and memory verse poster.

The student packs come with coloring sheets and take home sheets with games and extra info.  They also contain the craft materials needed for the lessons.

Elli's favorite activity this month was making her own colorful coat.  

She also really enjoyed decorating her own story telling set.
